Oh how we love the 112 eatery

It's high time to sing the praises of the 112 eatery, where people are welcome to eat at a civilized time (late), the service is always impeccable (thank you, Marcus), and the food is, well...perfect (the sea scallops with oyster mushrooms, the mind blowing 112 cheeseburger with brie on an english muffin.) Last night we had an impromptu celebration when my dessert (tres leches cake) arrived with a candle in it. I'm still not sure why, but then again, why not?

My Beautiful Laundrette

One of my favorite signs and the jolliest sunny-hued awning snapped out the window during lunch at Pop Restaurant, the only place in Minneapolis guaranteed to take care of a Nehi peach soda and caramelized onion fix.  I missed the shot I wanted which included a bright yellow school bus and flabby man in tank top with blue jug o'laundry detergent, but the gangly server just didn't understand my urgency, and got in my way. At any rate, the laundrette sign always reminds me of mid-eighties Daniel Day Lewis, and reminds Heidi that it reminds me of Daniel Day Lewis, which is slightly more involved than it simply reminding her of Daniel Day Lewis, directly.

Gaily-colored mums

We have fabulous (and gaily-colored) wads o'mums over at Surdyk's right now (in the season's hottest purple hues).  Huge wads of long lasting blooms, and a value-rific deal at $14.99.  Buy some mums for your mum.  You can laugh together about how clever you are...

And Surdyk's is in the middle of their wine sale.  I hear your mom likes a nice pinot grigio this time of year.

Long before you cheered him on during season 3 of Bravo's Top Chef, Brian Malarkey was our groom. Wed to the lovely Chantelle Hartman at the Lake Harriet Rose Garden, their nuptials were classic Minneapolis with a twist, and, of course, very food-centric with a reception at the gorgeous and delish Loring Pasta Bar.  Read more of the details (and the menu) on The Knot's feature of their event, photographed by E Photography.

Sweet...

A girl and her mom popped in late on a Friday afternoon.  She had been told that Bachman's order deadline had passed, and she was desperate for a boutonniere for her prom date.  We stuck our head in our cooler and pulled out a rose and said "how about a white rose?" to which she replied, "that's exactly what I was hoping for."  We whipped something up while we chatted with them about her plans and reminisced about our own past formals.   When her mom asked what they owed us, we both made faces and said simultaneously, "Oh, nothin'."  The following week, a car pulled up and out popped our girl, cupcakes in hand.  What a lovely treat, and such a sweet surprise.  The cupcakes were from Yum! Kitchen and Bakery.  We can't say enough good things about them, or for that matter, how much we love the good people in our neighborhood.

Wine and roses (and foxy cheese shop employees)

Love our flowers but haven't got time for face time with the girls? Too embarrassed to hit us up for last minute flowers, again? Swing by the cheese shop at Surdyk's where we have just begun to sell hand tied bouquets (as modeled by Josh Syx, resident rock star, in his Monday hat.) With crazy-friendly price points and all wrapped up in BS finery, they make the perfect hostess (or "I've been an ass") gift. And if you haven't heard, Surdyk's is a stellar place to hook up with like minded foodies.
